Junior Council was established which reports back to the Senior Council
on a regular basis. Also, two new Student Council Co-Ordinators were
appointed; Ms. Sheehan and Ms. Hayes. It gives students a guaranteed
voice on the Board of Management and keeps them updated on changes that
are introduced.
The 2007 Student Council includes;
Chairperson: Rufus Holmes (6th YR)
Vice-Chairperson: Sarah Sheehy (6th YR)
Secretary: David Naughton (5th YR)
Vice-Secretary: Matthew Kennedy (5th YR)

As well as a weekly meeting with school management, our

- Organising fundraising events such as Non-Uniform Days.
- Providing an easy link of contact between students and
the Board of Management.

J.t.B.C.S.
Student Council Deliver!
For
the past
nine months, the Student Council have been tirelessly working on your
behalf,
ensuring that all your complaints and suggestions are heard and worked
upon. The
summer holidays are now beckoning and so, we would just like to take a
few
minutes out of your class time to give you an overview of what we have
achieved
this school year.
- We
got straight to work in early September, with the welcome support of
new Student Council Co-ordinators Ms. Sheehan and Ms. Hayes. Elections
were held and Rufus Holmes was elected Chairperson. A publicity
campaign was started, encouraging students to use our suggestion box
and new email address.
- The
first of our Non-Uniform days was held in October, raising vital funds
for the R.T.E. People in Need Telethon along with the school itself.
Combined with the rest of our fundraising activities, we have raised
nearly €4000 and we could not have achieved this without your
kind generosity.
- In
December, we secured a radio for the canteen, allowing students to
truly get into the Christmas spirit. This went down very well with all
students and will hopefully be repeated next year. We also carried out
a school-wide survey, where every student was given the chance to tell
us what to do.
- February
saw many students feel the pressure of the mock exams. Several
suggestions were made through our suggestion boxes and we acted on what
problems were put to us. Future students will thank us for this in the
years to come!
- The
Student Council brought about the long awaited sale of soup in the shop
earlier this year. Like all our other actions, this only happened
thanks to all your suggestions and comments.
- We
have also played a major role in the Lost and Found Service in the
school and again, we would like to thank you for your support and
co-operation.
- More
recently, we have acted on complaints from those who do Senior Study
and secured permission for Fifth and Sixth Year students to go to the
shop before study each evening.
- This
year’s Student Council have also acted on your behalf outside the
school walls. Our members have attended various conferences during the
year, giving their views on topics including Alcohol misuse and the
Irish Health Service. Of course, it must not be forgotten that we are
the only Council in the country to have two members sitting on the
National Union of Secondary Students; Matthew Kennedy and David
Naughton.
- Finally,
we end the school year running a large scale publicity campaign for our
school in the A.I.B. Better Ireland Programme.
Remember, if you haven’t done so already, please text “Hospital B” to 53099 before Friday 6th
June.
While,
this
might all sound like a lot of work, in effect it is only part of what
we
have done throughout the year! As many of you will know, my time on the
Student
Council is now up, along with my fellow sixth year students. However,
as with
all matters political, there are no ends, only new beginnings, and your
new
Council will be jumping into action from early September.
On behalf of the
Student Council; thank you for all your suggestions, complaints and
compliments. We wish the best of luck to those facing into exams and to
all others;
have a safe and happy summer holidays. We look forward to representing
you in
the next school year!
Go
raibh míle maith agaibh.
