We realise that parents and students have many questions when deciding on a school. Hopefully we have been able to answer some of those for you already.

We have collected on this page some of the most common questions that parents and students ask us. As ever, if you haven't been able to find an answer on this site we encourage you to contact us. Brochures are available on request and our application form is available to download.

My daughter is very good at languages but thinks she might also like metalwork. Can she do both?
Yes. We encourage all our students to choose the subjects they are most interested in.

My son finds it very difficult to settle down to his homework at home. Do you have after-school study?
Yes. Your son will be able to enrole for supervised after-school study.

My child has a learning difficulty - I'm very worried that he will find it hard to cope in secondary school.
Our school maintains a close relationship with parents and primary schools. We will meet with you to discuss your child's needs and to enable us to put an individual learning programme in place.

My son who is in 6th class has no idea what option subjects he would like to study. Will he get help to decide?
Yes. he will have an opportunity to try out all the option subjects (list here) before choosing.

My child attends a very small primary school. I'm afraid that she might be bullied in secondary school.
The school has a strict policy on bullying. We use SPHE (Social, Personal & Health Education) classes and surveys to raise awareness. We take all incidents and reports very seriously and they are always investigated. We work in close cooperation with Bus Eireann in order to ensure that the journey to and from school does not cause problems.

Will the classes be very large in secondary school?
The numbers in first year classes usually vary between 20-24. The numbers in more senior classes vary depending on subject choices and student needs.

I am concerned about the weight of student's school bags in secondary school.
The school makes lockers available to students. We advise students to use their timetables and only bring the books that are needed for the day.

I have heard that the school has a special teacher who is available to visit parents.
The HSL (Home School Liaison) coordinator is an important part of the support that we have available for parents. This support also includes home visits or visits by parents to the school.

My son and daughter both enjoy games and P.E. Will they have equal opportunities?
All students are encouraged to participate in sport and exercise. More details on the sports played at the school are available in our extra curricular activities section.

Does my child have to bring a lunch to school every day
A healthy lunch is important. Some students bring them from home. Others purchase them in the school canteen. A variety of hot and cold drinks are also available. Water is available at all times in the drinking fountains.

My son is in leaving cert and would like to go to college. I am not sure how to advise him and am worried about the cost of college. Can the school help?
The career guidance counseller is available to offer help and advice to parents as well as students - parents are often concerned about the cost of college and have questions about grant applications. An appointment can be made over the phone.
